Erasmus Magazine

Usually, I refrain from commenting on Erasmus Magazine, as it would be inappropriate for me to influence or thwart in any way its freedom of press and its autonomy. I consider us, members of the EUR community, lucky to have an internal magazine of this calibre. Many universities have fought domestic wars over editorial content. We have a small but highly professional group of excellent people who fill EM with content of the highest quality. So I am counting my blessings. That said, I am tempted to comment on this week’s edition, featuring tongue-in-cheek articles ‘stolen’ from various Dutch newspapers and magazines and filled with EUR stories. Let me show my hand by admitting this is my favorite issue of the past year. Not just because of the portrait of Bart Straatman, though it is tempting to say this item tipped the balance. But because of the sheer joy that the makers obviously had in creating this issue; joy which is visible to the reader on every page. Contagious joy, which puts me as avid reader in the right mood for the summer recess: relaxed, and with a big smile on my face. Thank you Wieneke Gunneweg and the rest of the EM team, for your dedication to journalistic quality and for adding a spark to our campus lives. (And sorry to keep writing in English!)
