They may be unlikely bedfellows, perhaps, but certainly not strange, music and science. There is fascinating research indicating that patients who received a soothing dosage of Mozart during their operation, recovered more quickly than those who hadn’t. I met Gabriel Oostvogel yesterday, managing director of concert hall De Doelen in Rotterdam. Erasmus and De Doelen have been partners for many years, because the concert hall doubles as conference centre. Less explored is how we could collaborate in our two core businesses: music and science. De Doelen would be very interested in organising and co-hosting a conference exploring these links. Prof Hans Jeekel of Erasmus MC is actively looking for a researcher or group of researchers to adopt this initiative. Any takers? And while we are at it, I think the cultural sector deserves our unqualified support. De Doelen offer a magnificent menu of options which I invite you to check out.

Pauline van der Meer Mohr is president of the Executive Board and is responsible for general administrative matters, such as the relationship with the Board of Trustees and the University Council. Dear. Ms. Van der Meer Mohr – I would be happy to take this a step further. Whom should we contact for this?

I once made a paper for school how music influences plants. Conclusion yes it does. Plants develop nicely with mozart in contrast to rock music. I would love to go to De Doelen and hear what more links there are between music and science.

In consultation with the partnership anesthesiology we started a research “Anesthetized with your favorite music”. The results of the study encourage further research. Maybe you are interested in a multi-center research?
