I was tempted to translate the title of this blog, but decided against it. Over the last couple of days, some 100 colleagues from several support functions joined together offsite to discuss how we can modernise, professionalise and improve support service levels. Teams from ICT, Finance, Human Resources, Facility Management, Marketing/communication, OOS as well as various representatives from all faculties reviewed the status quo and the ambition level for improving support to our students, and to our colleagues in research and education. I cannot emphasise enough how happy I am that we are now looking at cross-functional plans to elevate our support to a level of professionalism where it needs to be. Support is such an important and integral part of the way we run the university. Without Schiphol airport, KLM would surely come to a grinding halt. Where would the Concertgebouw orchestra be without the dedicated teams of its concert hall? And where would our research and teaching staff be without professional support. OK OK, rhetorical questions, I know. With very practical and pragmatic plans and examples, several teams have been formed to implement changes, one step at the time. I am looking forward to hearing next steps, and will follow progress of the workstreams with great interest.
