I read a couple of fascinating articles in today’s Financieele Dagblad. The first concerned a $75mln donation to Oxford University to start a school of government modelled after the Kennedy school in the US. This kind of philantropy really makes a difference. The second article described a startup company, De Kleine Consultant (“the small consultant”), initiated by a former EUR-ESE student and thriving within a year of its inception. This consultancy trains students interested in consultancy by matching supply and demand under guidance of the big boys in this field (such as McKinsey, Booz and Roland Berger). A great example of a win-win model: students gain experience and exposure, clients receive advice almost for free and consultancies have access to the new generation of talent.
