If you want to learn about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, learning together is more powerful – and usually more fun – than going it alone. Of course, we can read a book or a memo to master the 10 easy (or not – so- easy) steps to increased diversity. But learning together in a workshop is an experiential process not to be underestimated. I have had many opportunities in the past to undergo similar events with management teams, and each time I have learned something new about people’s mindsets and views of the world, and about my own prejudices as well. It is a humbling and illuminating experience. Tomorrow the combined executive board and deans will go through a workshop lead by professor Tineke Willemsen. The purpose of the workshop is to enhance our understanding of the issues and bottlenecks in a university context, and to improve our effectiveness in leading the diversity agenda. Watch this space.
