I am greatly looking forward to spending 2 hours with the bachelors honours class of ESE this afternoon. (Who said I didn’t have to teach in this job??) In a 2 year program, ESE offers its best students the opportunity to engage in classes over and above their regular curriculum to deepen and enhance their academic knowlegde and skills. In previous classes, field pioneers have lectured on a varied range of topics from privatization and development economics to calculations of the cost of human life. Wow, I wish I could have been there as a fly on the wall. Today, I will lead what I call a ‘wiki-workshop’, where participants co-design the content of the 2 hours we spend together. I expect it to be a challenging yet rewarding session, as the value is highly dependent on the motivation and energy levels of participants. The Leitmotiv will be leadership and we will be exploring concepts such as personal leadership, integrity, management dilemma’s and essential leadership skills.
