2012 Small Grants Programme for Thesis Writing

Call for Applications


The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) is pleased to announce its Small Grants Programme for Thesis Writing for the year 2012. The grants serve as part of the Council’s contribution to the development of the social sciences in Africa, and the continuous renewal and strengthening of research capacities in African universities, through the funding of primary research conducted by postgraduate students and professionals. Hence, candidates whose applications are successful are encouraged to use the resources provided under the grants to cover the cost of their fieldwork, the acquisition of books and documents, the processing of data which they have collected and the printing of their theses/dissertations.


Legal Internship Positions (Spring & Summer 2012)

The Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice is seeking law or graduate students with a strong background in international law and strong legal research skills, and a good knowledge of the International Criminal Court (ICC), for Spring and Summer 2012 legal internships.    The internship requires fluency in written and spoken English; additional French language skills are strongly preferred. The legal internship is full-time; however, for exceptional candidates based in the Netherlands, part-time internships may also be a possibility.

HCA is an Istambul-based human rights organization. Since 2009, it has been working with the Respect for Refugees’ Rights Foundation (3R) to strengthen the legal assistance that is provided to asylum seekers and refugees in Turkey.

During the symposium Marieke van Eik will share her experiences as one of the 3R trainers assisting HCA.

The symposium will be chaired by Jeff Handmaker, 3R chair and senior lecturer in law, human rights and development at ISS
