Prof. K. Arts

On Monday 7 November 2016 ISS Professor Karin Arts was the speaker in the Science Café (wetenschapscafé) in Rotterdam, held in bistro de Binnerotte, adjacent to the public library in the centre of Rotterdam. The science café entails an informal meeting for all people who are interested in science. No registration is necessary on the side of the audience, and no powerpoints can be used on the part of the presenters. The idea is simply to engage with each other in an informal and direct manner. The topic was introduced by an impressive and touching column (available in Dutch only) by poet/word artist Derek Otte.

After Karin’s introduction on ‘children’s rights in the world: a global challenge’ a lively discussion of about one hour followed, covering a diverse range of aspects including child refugees, the impact and feasibility of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the children’s rights record of the Netherlands, and the issue of the lack of disaggregated data on children.
